Financial planning services

We believe in financial planning as a professional service for individuals, families and businesses who wish to control and align their finances and investments, in order to help them achieve their lifetime goals. Our approach at Thomson Cooper is to build a comprehensive and cohesive financial plan, based on your aspirations and what you wish to achieve in life.

The benefits of having a financial planner

Having an experienced planner by your side ensures that any changes to legislation or product solutions need not trouble you. It is however not about just the complicated and the technical.  Our financial planners add further value by bringing objectivity to your decision making, acting as a voice of reason and helping you to keep focused on your goals. Ultimately, we believe that having a financial planner by your side acting as a trusted advisor will give you enormous peace of mind. The initial meeting is at our expense.

Creating a financial plan

A financial plan starts with what is important to you. As everyone has their own unique circumstances, your financial plan will be tailored to your short, medium and long term goals.  We will build a plan based on your income and expenditure, your other assets and investments, and establish how you feel about investment risk.  We then formulate your comprehensive financial plan which incorporates cash flow modelling to help demonstrate your financial direction of travel, both now and into the future.

Regular review of your plan

It’s important that your plan is reviewed on a regular basis. After all, life is unpredictable and your plan may need to be revised from time to time to help you remain on track.  Ideally, we would like to review your circumstances annually at the very least.

Common reasons for seeking financial planning advice

There are many reasons why advice is sought.  This may be due to planning for impending retirement; receiving a windfall or inheritance; selling your business; setting up investments for children or funding future educational needs. We can also review underperforming investments.

Added benefits within our financial planning services package

We appreciate that not everyone’s circumstances will require a comprehensive financial plan.  We also provide advice on areas such as individual protection, for example life assurance, income protection and critical illness cover.  We also help businesses to establish shareholder protection and keyman insurances.  Our service proposition can help with a number of scenarios, which allows us to build solutions for all types of needs.

Where specific needs arise, we are happy to provide technical reports on complicated areas such as lifetime and annual allowance planning and inheritance tax planning for example.

Bruce Hendry

“I initially contacted Thomson Cooper with a speculative inquiry regarding taking early retirement. Bruce and the Wealth Management team have made the entire journey from wishful thinking to establishing a robust, sustainable investment and spending portfolio, completely stress free. I am now happily retired, nearly ten years before I believed possible.”
