Personal Tax Manager

Apr 19, 2022

At Thomson Cooper our purpose is to “listen, advise and support our clients to achieve their goals”.

Due to growth in our tax compliance and advisory services, we have an exciting opportunity for an individual who shares that purpose to join us as our new Personal Tax Manager.

You will work as part of our tax team delivering personal tax compliance and advisory services to a wide range of clients.  You will be jointly responsible for supervising and instructing trainee staff.  You will work closely with colleagues in the tax team.  You must therefore have the necessary skillset to develop and maintain relationships with both senior management and our wider colleagues.  You will be able to demonstrate the ability to explain complex tax positions in a way that is easy and clear for clients and non-tax colleagues to understand.

Although this is not an exhaustive list, below is an illustration of the varied workload associated with the role –

CORE OPERATIONAL

  • Managing the workflow for self-assessment tax returns and providing Partners with monthly KPI reports.
  • Managing the process of requesting client information and chaser communications.
  • Completion of specific personal tax returns and advising clients of their liabilities.
  • Completion of Trust tax returns.
  • Liaison with clients regarding their personal tax returns and payments on account.
  • Advising clients regarding the personal tax position, including capital gains and inheritance tax.
  • Assisting with implementing the changes required to prepare for MTD for ITSA.
  • Providing training to students and colleagues in accounts and payroll departments.

CORE BEHAVIOURS AND ATTRIBUTES

Ideally, you will have around three years’ experience working in a personal tax team in practice.

You must be able to demonstrate excellent communication skills, both written and oral and be confident dealing with people of all levels within an organisation.  Ideally you will have prior experience using CCH personal tax and workflows.

You will be seeking a role which will allow you to develop your people and client management skills and be looking for a firm where you can positively contribute to the growth of the tax department.  You will be able to demonstrate a practical and level-headed approach to dealing with people and problem solving.

We operate an employee engagement programme; employees have regular one to one meetings with their manager and/or partner and we support our people to develop and grow.  We offer a competitive salary, Employee Assistance Programme and benefits package and a great working environment, including agile and hybrid working.

The salary for this post will be commensurate with experience.  The position is full-time, 37.5 hours per week.

If you have the right skills and experience, along with the ability to work to a consistently high standard and comfortable working to deadlines, we want to hear from you.

As part of the recruitment process you must provide evidence of your right to work in the UK.  Please be aware that this post does not satisfy the qualifications or salary requirement to qualify for skilled worker sponsorship, and Thomson Cooper do not currently hold a valid skilled worker sponsor licence to employ workers from outside the UK.
