Unique Opportunity for a Final Year Finance/Business Undergraduate

At Thomson Cooper our purpose is to “listen, advise and support our clients to achieve their goals” and due to continued growth, we have an exciting and unique opportunity for a forward-thinking final year, finance student to join our audit team on a part-time basis.

This role has been created specifically to identify talented individuals who aspire to an interesting and rewarding career in audit and want a head start on the competition by joining our team ahead of their final degree result.

You will work up to 2.5 days per week (no less than 2), based in either our Dunfermline or Edinburgh office, and receive on-the-job training in the field of audit.  On completion of your degree to a standard of 2:1 or above, and satisfactory performance and progression in this part-time role, you will be offered a full-time training contract with the firm to further develop your career in audit.

You will work under the supervision of our audit managers and will be mentored by our Director of Audit.  The only requirement for this role is that you are studying towards a degree in Finance or Business and can devote up to 2.5 days per week to your role as Audit Trainee.

Although this is not an exhaustive list, below is an idea of the varied workload associated with the role – full training will be given.

CORE OPERATIONAL

  • Working as part of an Audit team delivering external audit services to various sectors and sizes of client including charities
  • Preparation of statutory accounts
  • Drafting corporation tax computations for review by managers and tax department
  • Working at client premises
  • Exposure to a wide and diverse client base
  • Maintaining client contact and delivering a proactive service
  • Working as part of a team

CORE BEHAVIOURS AND ATTRIBUTES

We are looking for a student who has a genuine interest in the field of audit and understands the important part audit plays in maintaining public confidence in UK business.  While no prior experience is necessary, an understanding and interest in topical audit issues will be beneficial to your application process.

Ideally, you will have had some experience in a customer service environment, whether that be retail or hospitality or an internship or summer job in an accountancy practice.

You will also be able to demonstrate excellent communication skills, both written and oral and be able to convey clearly how you will combine your studies with this part-time role such that you can be successful in both.
