In April 2019, VAT registered businesses operating above the £85,000 threshold will be required to submit their records to HMRC in a compliant digital format, as part of their Making Tax Digital programme (MTD). This will mean that many businesses will need to change or upgrade their existing accounting software package. To help support businesses through this process, we will be hosting workshops for MTD during the last quarter of 2018 and early 2019.  These will be similar to the RTI events we held a few years ago.  They will last around an hour and a half and have the following agenda:

• What is MTD?
• How does it affect my business?
• What do I need to do now to be compliant?
• What happens if I get things wrong or don’t comply?
• What does the future hold?
• Q&A

The workshops will be a must for all businesses/organisations which are VAT registered and have a turnover exceeding £85,000.  Even businesses which are already using an MTD compliant piece of accounting software will benefit from the workshop.  The workshops will not cover any software solutions in any depth – they are designed to help business owners understand how MTD will affect them and what they may need to put in place.

If you require advice on which software solution is best for your business, please contact Partner Elaine Cromwell at ecromwell@thomosncooper.com to arrange a consultation.
